Robert Macon Andrews

1st President; 1924-1929

“We must visualize the future. We must have something to lure us on.”

Gideon Ireland Humphreys

2nd President; 1930-1949

“Education is an experience of searching for and finding truth; seeking for, tabulating and correlating facts. But it is more, it is the constant enlarging and assuming right attitudes. In short, education is a life-building process.”

Dennis H. Cooke

3rd President; 1949-1959

“We do not have our hearts set on ‘bigness’ here at High Point College; neither are we against it. We are not allergic to becoming a larger institution, but we must ‘get better’ before we have a right to ‘get bigger.’ For the next ten years, therefore, emphasis should be placed upon the development of our present program, rather than expansion. Considerable effort should be devoted toward improving our academic structure, which has been good, but should be made better.”

Wendell M. Patton

4th President; 1959-1981

“This is the story of an institution born in poverty, but also born in love. One that thrived on misfortune and impossibilities. One which overcame difficulties with hard work and prayer, to become in just fifty short years one of the finest and strongest Christian colleges of not only the State of North Carolina, but the South.”

Charles R. Lucht

5th President; 1981-1985

“High Point College was a community in the highest sense of the word.”

Jacob Martinson

6th President; 1981-2004

“We are interested in the ‘whole person’ of each student at HPC. Students are just as important to us as is the subject matter . Students are important to us and we care about them, and I think that is unique. My concern is for the students to leave here better than when they came here.”

Nido R. Qubein

7th President; 2005-Present

“When we admit a student to HPU, we commit our full resources to ensure thier success.”
